A day in Singapore

We had a scheduled layover at the Changi Airport last October and we decided to extend our stay in Singapore  for 24 hours and explore the city-state

Where I stayed?

The Changi airport is famous for being one of the best and most comfortable in the world, so the airport was already on my sightseeing list. We had a very early flight the next morning so we stayed at the transit hotel on terminal 1. It’s very comfortable and you’ll sleep well for a few hours before/after your flight. Please note that you need to check-in before entering the terminal area, so it’s a good idea to check with your airline how far in advance you can check-in if you plan to get some zzz before your flight.

How to get around?

The Singapore MRT is a great option, you can ride from the airport to downtown and everywhere you need to go. Remember, no durian on the train!

What to eat?

Try the markets at Chinatown, grab Singaporean roasted chicken at the Wisma Atria Building food court (MRT station Orchard) and for dessert try the coffee with condensed milk. For dinner, take the MRT to Raffles Place to see the Merlion and walk to Clarke Quay and pick a restaurant with a water view.

What to do?

You can’t miss Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay, visit the pavilions and the observation deck. Stroll through downtown (MRT station CIty Hall) for a scenic tour and a taste of the architecture. My favourite place in Singapore was the Botanic Garden, we spent a couple of hours looking at the beautiful tropical flora and we loved it!

What not to miss?

If you have the time, spend a couple hours at one of Singapore’s rooftop bars for a great view and a good time. Check out some of the best options here.
